What is Music Therapy?

Music Therapy is a discipline in which Certified Music Therapists “use music purposefully within therapeutic relationships to support development, health, and well-being. Music therapists use music safely and ethically to address human needs within cognitive, communicative, emotional, musical, physical, social, and spiritual domains.”

Where do Music Therapists work?

Music therapists work in hospitals, continuing care, psychiatric settings, schools and daycares, rehabilitation facilities, group homes, outpatient clinics, community-based programs, correctional facilities, private practice and other settings.

Is Music Therapy a Regulated Profession in Alberta?

Certified Music Therapists in Alberta are currently in consultation to become regulated as Counselling Therapists in a proposed College of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (CCTA). For more information visit the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA).
